About Project
Laddie’s Memorial Garden was unveiled on July 15th, 2022 at the scene where 14-year-old Laddie was killed by police in Placencia Village, a small coastal peninsula in Southern Belize. This memorial features an artistic wave shaped bench which represents feng shui – meaning the way of wind and water. Feng Shui is believed to create a good environment. Also, a cairn made from river stones collected from the Macal River Valley can be found sustaining a mosaic football – representing Laddie’s love for the sport. This Memorial Garden was created to honor his memory, provide a safe reflection space for others who have fallen victim to police abuse, and to continue the fight for police reform in social justice.
